Features and benefits:

Five instruments in one (IV source, IVR measurement)

The N2600 series source measure units (SMUs) are housed in a standard half-rack 2U chassis, integrating source and measurement circuitry into a single compact instrument. Compared with test systems built from separate power supplies and measurement instruments, the N2600 series dramatically shortens the time required to develop, set up, and maintain a test system, while saving valuable rack or bench space and reducing the overall cost of ownership.

The tightly coupled design of the N2600 series offers significant advantages over discrete instruments. While delivering precise voltage and current sourcing, it simultaneously measures current, voltage, and resistance with extremely fast response times. This fast response helps protect the device under test from damage during occasional overloads or thermal runaway.

Four-quadrant operation: source or sink

Four quadrants: The source quadrants are defined by a plot with the output voltage on the X-axis and the output current on the Y-axis. In the first and third quadrants, voltage and current share the same polarity: the instrument supplies power to the other device, which is source mode. In the second and fourth quadrants, voltage and current have opposite polarity: the other device discharges into the SMU, which passively sinks the incoming current and provides a return path for it, which is sink mode.

I-V characteristic analysis

Usually, I-V characteristic analysis of the device under test requires a high-sensitivity ammeter, voltmeter, voltage source and current source. Programming, synchronizing, connecting, measuring and analyzing these essential instruments separately is a complex and time-consuming process and also takes up too much test bench space.

The N2600 series greatly simplifies the test process and reduces rack space. Each model of the digital source meter provides 4-quadrant operation: in the 1st and 3rd quadrants, it outputs power to the load as a source; in the 2nd and 4th quadrants, it absorbs energy as a sink (load). It can measure voltage, current, and resistance in both source and sink modes, making it an ideal choice for I-V characteristic analysis of materials research, electronic devices, semiconductors, and other DUTs.

Power Envelope Diagram

Unlike conventional matrix power supplies, the N2600 series SMUs let users choose between high-voltage/low-current or low-voltage/high-current output at the same power level, based on actual requirements. The source/sink limits of the N2600 series also vary with the selected range.

       N2600-020-01 source/sink limits: ±21 V @ ±1.05 A

       N2600-200-01 source/sink limits: ±21 V @ ±1.05 A; ±210 V @ ±105 mA

Linear and Logarithmic Sweeps

The N2600 series integrates linear and logarithmic sweep modes. Once the sweep function and compliance limits are set, the sweep runs automatically, greatly improving test efficiency.

Both basic sweep waveforms can be configured for single-event or continuous operation, making them ideal for I/V, I/R, V/L, and V/R characterization.

       - Linear staircase sweep: sweeps from the start voltage to the stop voltage in equal linear steps.

       - Logarithmic staircase sweep: a sweep from the start voltage to the stop voltage in which the rate of change per unit step is logarithmic.

2/4/6-wire resistance measurement

High-precision digital multimeters support resistance measurement in several modes, and the method used affects measurement accuracy. The N2600 series source measure units integrate high-precision digital multimeter

measurement functions, supporting not only high-precision voltage and current measurement but also 2/4/6-wire resistance measurement, making them suitable for a wide range of test scenarios.

2-wire resistance measurement: suited to cases where test lead resistance is far lower than the resistance under test, ignoring voltage drop losses in the leads.

4-wire resistance measurement: suited to low-resistance measurements; the N2600 series source measure units feature automatic correction to eliminate lead effects.

6-wire resistance measurement: When the resistor under test is in parallel with other resistors, those resistors divert current and skew the measurement. The N2600 series Source Measure Unit (SMU) uses 6-wire resistance measurement to measure resistors in-circuit on a PCB.

Automation for higher production test throughput
The N2600 series SMU delivers ultra-high-precision voltage and current sourcing with high-accuracy measurement—no rewiring or additional equipment required—dramatically improving production test efficiency. To meet the throughput demands of production applications, the SMU also includes built-in capabilities for running complex test sequences without slower PC control or GPIB communication.

Large high-definition LCD display

The N2600 series digital source meters feature a 4.3-inch high-definition LCD. Compared with conventional VFD display panels, the HD LCD offers lower power consumption, a smaller footprint, and lower radiation. Combined with a purpose-built interface, it simplifies operation and makes measurement data more intuitive and comprehensive to read.
