Functions & Configuration

The PS-CC closed-cycle probe station from Advanced Research Systems (ARS)enables non-destructive sample testing with flexible test configurations. It is widely used for DC, RF, MEMS, nanoelectronics, superconductivity, optoelectronic characterization of nanoscale circuits, quantum dots and quantum wires, and non-destructive testing.

The station uses DE204, DE210 or DE215 series cold heads and requires no cryogens (liquid helium or liquid nitrogen) throughout the test. Different cold head models can be selected to suit specific test requirements, achieving minimum sample temperatures of 13 K, <10 K, 7 K or <4 K. All ARS closed-cycle cold heads employ a high-capacity first stage, which enables rapid system cooldown and minimizes thermal load. The pneumatically driven GM cold head offers high first-stage cooling capacity with inherently low vibration, making it ideal for this field.

The system provides researchers with a large, clean sample environment. The vacuum chamber is constructed from welded stainless steel, and the radiation shield is made of nickel-plated OFHC copper. The low emissivity of the nickel plating and the high thermal conductivity of OFHC copper keep the radiation shield at a lower temperature and increase net cooling capacity in the sample space. High-quality vacuum components are essential for achieving a higher vacuum, cleaner surfaces and better electrical contact at the sample.

ARS manufactures both the cold head and the probe station in-house, and this one-stop production ensures stable product performance while facilitating system diagnostics and service.
